Tin Oo, Secretary-2

Tin Oo, Secretary-2
   (1940-2001).
Lieutenant general and second secretary of the State Law and Order Restoration Council and, after 1997, the State Peace and Development Council. A hardliner who repeatedly called for the "annihilation" of Aung San Suu Kyi and the National League for Democracy, he was the target of an assassination attempt in March 1997, a parcel bomb that killed his eldest daughter. The government claimed that it had been sent by Burmese exiles based in Japan. On February 19, 2001, he died in an apparently accidental helicopter crash in Karen (Kayin) State.
